We awoke to a lovely sunny day. Even had breakfast at the picnic table
outside the trailer. The picnic table with the odd tilt. Two people had to sit down at the same time on diagonal benches, or it would tilt dangerously. We sat CAREFULLY.
Everyone had a good night, and was up for an
adventurous day. Anne and Gary were very tired after traveling on 3
planes to arrive in Edmonton. Russ and I were a bit weary after
traveling for 5 days to arrive in Edmonton.
We spent the morning at the Reynolds Alberta Transportation Museum
across the road from the RV Park. It is huge, and quite a production.
They had vintage motorcycles, cars, trucks, bicycles, farm equipment. It
is so well done, colorful, and interesting. We were a bit disappointed
that we could not wait until 1 pm, because we would have been able to
ride in vintage cars, as part of museum experience.
Outside the museum, we toured several enormous steam shovels on the grounds.
They had two more enormous buildings full of planes, but we had to move
on to have lunch, and pack up the trailer for the drive to Hinton. As we
pulled out of the campground, a single Chamber of Commerce Prairie Dog
stood beside the road, wishing us a safe trip.
The topography changed dramatically on the drive toward Jasper. From
flat, grain fields, we approached lakes, forests, and rolling hills. It
was so much like the landscapes in Northern Maine. And quite suddenly,
the mountains appeared, huge, looming, and dramatically beautiful.
Canada has many American companies- Walmart, Safeway, Staples, Home
Depot, yet different gas stations. Some Esso and Shell, but Husky and
Petro Canada. We have had not problem adjusting to the changes. People
have been really friendly and helpful.
We arrived at the KOA, in a lovely field, with horses on one side, and
the view of Jasper's mountains on the other. Tomorrow we are off to see
Jaspar National Park.
Temps are still nice. We had wine and cheese in chairs on the grass
outside the trailer tonight, and dinner at the picnic table. It was
still light at 9 pm when we went for a walk and spent a few minutes in a
circular shell with a roaring fire. Another nice day, and many more
memories.
