We drove across the Nevada desert today. It was pretty in its own way. Kinda warm tho. It was 91 degrees when we arrived at the RV park. It was 97 in Battle Mt today, and we have to go through there tomorrow. It is to be warmer tomorrow, too. We may make some sandwiches and leave them in the trailer frig, and eat while we are driving.
The desert is really interesting. The small towns are microcosms of American life. In Lovelock, a dog ran down the middle of the street, cars slowed or stopped. It was his town. They carve the first letter of the name of the town on the hillside, so one can see when approaching. If it is not the name of the town, it is the first letter of the high school team, like the Mustangs. For miles we passed the dry desert, but north of Sparks there is a shallow lake, the Humbolt Sink. Interesting. Imagine the desert is alive with animals at night, when it is cool.
While crossing the desert today, the cell phone rang. It amazes me that we live in an age where we can talk on the phone while traveling in a car. Caitlin was calling to tell us that she found a wedding dress, and wanted to share her excitement with us. She is a marathon shopper, and mostly clearance things. She and Travis ( he goes shopping with her ), went to a discount sample outlet. She found the dress there, a designer one. She will bring it out in November, and we will tweak it, so it is the right length and fits perfectly.
Tomorrow night we will stay at Twin Falls, Idaho. I hope it cools off as we move north. There are some forest fires burning in Caspar, Wyoming, and I hope we don't run into any in Montana. It is a dry time of summer.
I hope all is well with you and yours. I will write more when we have seen and done some interesting things.
