Yes, the MGI is all about egos

Pat Butler writes about the GV City Council meeting to discuss the MGI: Tempers flare over growth debate. Here is the telling paragraph in the story.
Earlier in the evening, Cattaneo said the initiative would give "voters the opportunity to vote on these matters." He also complained that the city had treated his organization poorly in the past.
Yes, the MGI is all about Grant Cattaneo's bruised ego. All future changes to will put Grant Cattaneo and CCAT at the forefront of every proposed change which will have to be voted on. Once this initiative is passed "You will have to listen to us," they are declaring. Do we want Grant Cattaneo's bruised ego to be the pivot point for all planning in Grass Valley. I think not!

Tried to link to the Butler piece and it stalled out. Not sure if it is me or the new Union site.
I did not attend the meeting last night. KNCO played a few segments this morning, it sounded a lot like the last meeting where informed people spoke on the draw-backs of doing something like the MGI.
Yesterday at the Board of Sups we visited the Loma Rica Area Plan and had some spirited debate from the local residents. Some good info was put forward and I believe the group got educated. We found out how the neighbors feel, and they got straightened out as to what is being proposed. It is always amazing how the wrong information gets out there and creates error filled ideas in the land owners nearby the project, EMOTION. We voted to amend the General Plan and do some cleanup work to get the Loma Rica industrial area on the right path for the future.
Now, imagine if we would have to put all of this before the voters and hope they develope the correct idea.
Elected officials you can trust and public hearings work. And the right thing for the community happens.
Agenda-driven positions generally benifit small groups.

Russ,
What was amazing was Friends of Grass Valley's Sacramento attorney, implying that the City Council is on the take -- or worse. This is the most divisive thing in Nevada County since NH2020. I predict a bad few months ahead of us.
