Here are some pictures I took of the Tea Party at the Fair Grounds on 6 June 2009.
The makeshift stage with Turquoise, a band from Reno Playing patriotic music. They were excellent!
This is Mark Williams noted Talk Radio personality who was the event MC and motivational speaker. More on Mark Williams here.
Tom McClintock our District 4 Congressman gave a rousing speech on taking back our freedom from the government, all without a tele-prompter. More on McClintock here.
Fred Buhler completed the speeches with recap of Friends Nevada County Military activities in support our troops. More on Fred and the Friends here.
There were also fine speeches by Mark Meckler and Stan Meckler one of the founding members of the Tea Party protest movement who lives in Nevada County, and Norm Sours a local lawyer on the importance of reading and understanding the Constitution. Unfortunately I was so busy listening I forgot to take any pictures of these speakers.
Update: George Rebane has some thoughts on the neighborhood Tea Party at Rebane's Ruminations. His estimate of the attendance is a little higher than mine, and is perhaps more accurate. My estimate was taken at the start of the Tea Party, there were most likely some late arrivals that were not in my count. I saw George assessing the crowd midway through the presentations. In addition to the lone lady reporter with her recorder, Thom Forsythe & Dick Marshall who host the Conservative View on NCTV Channel-11, were interviewing participants including Doug LaMalfa who is running for Sam Aanestad's State Senate Seat. Doug is from Redding, and is often seen at Nevada County events, including Friends of Nevada County Military packing parties. Check the NCTV schedule here for the interviews and some live shots of the event.
