At first reading it appeared they were banning the use of music devices during lunch and class room recesses. No the ban is because every NU student does not own an iPod. It is OK to have other music devices, cellphones and calculators, but no Apple iPods.
What a bunch of liberal crap. There has always been informal social castes in high school and college. The more wealthy students wore more expensive clothes, had nicer cars, while other students could not even afford a bicycle and had to ride the bus.
I guess it is OK to have and iPhone with it's built in iPod, but no Apple iPods. OK to have a Blackberry with build audio, but no Apple iPods.
Will the NU thinkers be banning Blackberries and iPhones next, and only allowing cheap Trac phones handed out at registration. Will they soon be banning HP Calculators, only allowing cheap no name brands bought at the drug store, or issued at registration.
How about banning all electronic devices and just issue number 2 pencils with the NU Logo. These will be the only pencils allowed on campus and must be used for all note and test taking. That way everyone will be on the same level. No electronic caste system.
How about issuing NU blue jumpsuits for boys and girls, so everyone looks the same, hair all cut the same length and no makeup. Then the pointy headed thinkers can turn the NU Campus into a real socialist conclave of sameness.
