I have written about the impact of volcanoes on our weather here and here. Now vulcanologist in Iceland are reporting a swarm of 13 earth quakes on or near Katla in the last 24 hours. This is the most they have seen in such a short time and think that they are getting closer and closer to an eruption. Read more here.
In the past when Katla erupted it has a significant impact on the weather in the Northern Hemisphere for several years. A Katla eruption would have more serious consequences for Europe and transatlantic air travel and associated economic impacts. Stay tuned for updates.
