After an initial flurry of excitement that Cycle 24 was starting, the Sun does not seem to be cooperating. There are currently no spots and no indication of any on the back side. According to AccuWeather we are most likely going to have a very strong La Nina, and the quiet Sun may be a big contributor.
The next few years are going to be real exciting, as we watch the next cycle develop. High number of spots (warmer) fewer spots (cooler). Early indicators will be a rapid rise in the number of spots when they return. Typical high years have rapid increase. A slow rise over next three years will indicate a low cycle. A cold cycle here on earth. Keep watching for the start of Cycle 24.
