I have been writing about a new paper on California Climate Variability here and here. At Watts Up With That, Anthony has a link where you can down load this very interesting paper. Both Anthony and I will be blogging on this paper, that indicates that global warming is regional with in the state. Urban area are warming more than rural areas and some rural areas have actually experiences cooling.
I have been exchanging e-mails with the lead author of the Climate Variability study, Dr. LaDochy and have asked for a list of the stations used in the study and the data source used. Dr. LaDochy has been most helpful sending me a copy of this study. I am hoping for a list of the stations, as not all of the 331 stations in California were used, 226 stations being used for Tmean, 219 for Tmax and 233 for Tmin. It is important to know which stations were used. It looks like 7 stations were used in Nevada County, with those in the western county showing increases. As I have reported before, the rural stations are not showing any warming.
Anthony's California Surface Station Survey is almost complete, only three more stations to go, and plans are in place to get those before the end of the year. As many readers know, some of the surfaces stations have some serious problems. It will be interesting to compare those stations used this study with findings of the surfaces station survey. Now do the stations with significant temperature rises rate? However, not all the stations used were in the Historical Climatology Network, such as the Grass Valley station shown in the above photo.
Seven of the station in the Climate Variability are in Nevada County and I am continuing to investigate the results. In the past I have just looked at the temperature mean, where as the study looks at the mean, the minimum and maximum. I am in the process of writing an analysis program in R to plot all three on the same graph. Some results later this weekend, if time allows.
