In 1990 the California voters had had enough corruption in Sacramento and enacted Prop 140 which restricted Assembly Members to six years of service and each Senator to eight years. Ten years after enactment of Prop 140, the political class and their high price lawyers put Prop 45 on the ballot in 2001 to allow incumbent legislators to extend their terms if they gathered signatures from 20 percent of the voters in their district. The voters in 2001 were on top their scam and defeated Prop 45 by 58%.
Nunez on the left, Perata on the other left (right).
Now the political class is at it again with Prop 93 to extend their tenure in the legislature.
Power brokers Assembly Speaker Nunez and Senator Pro Tem Perata knew that their term of office in the Legislator would soon be over in November 2008. So they collaborated with Governor Schwarzenegger to move the political primary to February, so California would have more influence in the selection of the President. Right! When in fact this was just a clever scheme to put Prop 93 on the ballot. If passed, Prop 93 would increase the terms of incumbent legislators, including Speaker Nunez and Senator Perata. If Prop 93 passes, they will be free to run for election again in the fall of 2008.
The special interest money is pouring to pass the proposition so we can continue to have legislators that cannot pass a budget on time, spend more money than the State collects in tax revenue, and pass greenhouse gas reduction legislation to solve that does not existent problem. They are going to allow the power companies to control your thermostat, and any other devices that consume more power than your carbon allocation. I hope you are on to Speaker Nunz's and Senator Perata's power game and vote NO on Prop 93. I am!
