One of the indicators that global warming is not a real threat to mankind is the Medieval Warm Period. If it has been significantly warmer in the past, without increasing levels of CO2, one has to conclude that some other forcing factor was involved.
The earth was not destroyed when temperatures were significantly higher than they are today. I fact, populations expanded during this unusual warming, Greenland was colonized, well feed populations of workers built significant religious and civil infrastructure. Intellectual thinking flourished across the Northern Hemisphere, life was good as the world warmed and prospered.
The viability of the Medieval Warm Period was one of the major issues I debated with Anna Haynes on her blog at NCFocus, that is until I was banned. Anna’s position was that the MWP did not exist, and if it did it was only in Europe. Opps, here is some evidence from our own back yard in the Sierra.
A 3,000-year record from 52 of the world’s oldest trees shows that California’s western Sierra Nevada was droughty and often fiery from 800 to 1300, according to a new study led by University of Arizona researchers. What, it was warm and dry in the Sierra under the influence of the MWP? How could that be, Anna said her favorite bloggers quoting peer reviewed papers said it was not true. Oh, the detail are at Watts Up With That in the: Medieval Warm Period seen in western USA tree ring fire scars.
What do you think?
