Russ SteeleOrganizations who oppose the suspension of AB32, under the California Jobs Initiative, have a re-framing problem. They have to get voters to stop thinking about the control of carbon dioxide and start thinking about dirty air and dirty energy from Texas. They are using psychology to get voters to re-think the California Jobs Initiative from a different point of view, not about CO2, but dirty air.
We are all against dirty air, but AB32 is not about air pollution. The opponents of AB32 suspension want voters to think it is about dirty air and dirty energy. They want voters to think that passing the AB32 suspension is all about polluting the air by Texas Oil Companies. They are re-framing the issue from CO2 emissions to dirty air pollution.
Here is an example from Al Gores’ Re-power America that came in an e-mail labeled Dirty Energy in California.
This week's media coverage around the ballot measure will be the first time that most Californian's hear about the "dirty energy proposition." Let's make sure that they hear the truth -- by filling our local papers with letters to the editor opposing this dangerous proposal. We'll provide you with the facts and basic talking points for reference -- you just need to share your voice and make sure it's heard on this critical issue.
We all know that CO2 is not dirty, as it is what humans exhale. It is also an essential component for plant growth. We also know that increasing CO2 will only have a minimum impact on temperatures. So, opponents have to re-frame the issue to dirty air from dirty Texas energy companies.
If you are interested in promoting more jobs and restoring California’s economy, when you see a letter in your local paper opposing the suspension of AB32, challenge that letter with one of your own. Do not let Al Gores’s Repower America redefine the issue, we need the jobs. California needs your votes.
