Southern California's public radio station, KPCC, and its syndicated program "Marketplace" will host a daylong town hall Web cast next Wednesday. The symposium is entitled "Climate and Sustainability: Moving By Degrees," and is "aimed at bringing together journalists and the public online and at Southern California Public Radio’s (SCPR) Crawford Family Forum to decipher fact from fiction, to learn how our scientific understanding has evolved, and to understand where politics, science and business agree and diverge on how to create a sustainable future."
Those noted warmers attending: (my comments are in italics)
Dr. Michael E. Mann, Pennsylvania State University (I wonder if he will being the missing data and his secret computer code to share with the Market Watchers? The code that created the broken Hockey Stick other scientist cannot replicate.)
Dr. Benjamin Santer, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (I wonder if he will bring the paragraphs that he removed from the AR4 report. Paragraphs that fellow scientist wrote to express their doubts about human caused global warming from increasing CO2.)
Stewart Brand, founder of the Whole Earth Review ( Perhaps he will explain his role as an engineering God, taming Mother Nature with his geo-engineering, wiping away all that nasty global warming?)
Andrew Revkin, award-winning New York Times Dot Earth blogger (Maybe Revkin will explain his cozy relationship with the AGW promoting scientist, as revealed in the Climategate e-mails?)
Joe Romm, Center for American Progress and ClimateProgress.org blogger. ( After asking him about those pesky malaria mosquitoes, I wonder if he will do his impersonation of Mony Python's Black Knight.... or his interpretation of an angry Sir Robin.)
Mindy Lubber, President, Ceres (I wounder it they will ask her how high she thinks that fuel prices should be to force people out of their cars and on to public transit and their bikes.)
Naomi Oreskes, author of “Merchant of Doubt” ( They could ask Nomia is she has figured out how to use Google Search yet to find peer reviewed papers by climate deniers, she could only find warmers papers.)
Dr. Stephen Schneider, Stanford University ( Famous for this quote about the promotion of human cause global warming: “And like most people we’d like to see the world a better place, which in this context translates into our working to reduce the risk of potentially disastrous climate change. To do that we have to get some broad-based support, to capture the public’s imagination. That, of course, entails getting loads of media coverage. So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we might have.” Perhaps the good Doctor can share his latest scary scenario based on dodgy science for the Market Watchers.)
Elizabeth Kolbert, award-winning staff writer at The New Yorker ( She may have been a major contributor to the New Yorker’s decline in subscriptions. After Her three-part series, “The Climate of Man,” I have never touched another copy of the New Yorker and doubt I ever will. When discussing the CO2 in ice cores Kolbert implies that the CO2 caused the warming, just like Al Gore, when in fact the CO2 started rising 400-800 AFTER the warming started. Kolbert is a darn good writer, but she is a AGW missionary who never lets facts get in the way of her mission.)
Be sure to tune in for a laugh or two. But, please do not drink while listening, unless you have an iPad, or plastic cover over your keyboard.
