I was watching the Ch-13 News last night and heard a Sacramento economist predict that we will not see any economic recovery until 2013. But, it is worse than that for the construction industry.Sacramento State Business Dean Sanjay Varshney, one of the areas leading Economists, says the state government's deficit is one reason reason that we will not seen any job growth in the region until at least 2013. "The construction sector will never come back in my lifetime, I don't believe, to the same level we saw in that Gold Rush in the 2000-2006 era," said Varshney.
The Construction Industry was a major factor in Nevada County’s economy, contributing 13% to 17% depending on when the snapshot was taken. If the construction industry is not going to recover any time soon, then we will continue to feel the impact in Nevada County.
With AB32’s economic impacts on the horizon, this will make the local recovery even more difficult, especially with the accompanying increased energy costs. We can help our recovery by voting YES on PROP 23, delaying the implementation of AB32 until the economy recovers.
