This says it all. California's chief air regulator was jubilant: "They didn't know who they were messing with," said Mary Nichols, when the first numbers came in from the polls.
Who was being messed with? An unelected bureaucrat funded by California lefty elites in the entertainment business, rent seeking environmentalist organizations, and green venture capitalist with billions invested in wind, solar and biofuels. These “unelected’ forces out spent the pro Prop 23 groups by 3 to 1. To whose benefit?
California’s economic future grew dimmer with the rejection of Prop 23, the election of progressive Jerry Brown and passage of Prop 25 which allows the state budget to be approved based on a simple majority instead of the current 2/3 majority. The Democrat controlling legislature will continue to tax and spend California into bankruptcy, only now it will be accelerated.
With no control over unelected bureaucrats like Mary Nichols, the cost of energy is going to soar and business will have to make a decision to stay or flee. Many will flee, accelerating a process that started in 2006 with the passage of AB32.
The Democrats now own the state's financial mess. This blog will continue to follow the impact of the mid-term elections on California's economy. With conservative Republicans taking control of the House, we can expect some investigations into the AGW hoax upon which AB32 is based. As those investigation proceeds we will record the potential economic impacts on California. Stay Tuned.
