This is pure out of the box musing on what could be done with the vacant Weave Auto Dealership. Our local foodies has been promoting the development of a Nevada County year around farmers market. The County BOS is looking for highly visible visitor center location and they have expressed a need to consolidate local economic development organizations, including the multiple Chambers and the Economic Resource Council into one central facility where they can share resources. (Google photo from 2007, in better days for Weaver Auto.)
I am proposing the following, if the Bank takes back of the Weaver facility, and it is available for purchase at pennies on the dollar by a local joint powers local agency and turned in to a community economic development center. The Weaver facility is highly visible location from the freeway with easy access and could be re-purposed as follows:
- Turn the large service bay building into a year around farmers market, with a front office and accounting office in the same building.
- Turn the central show room into a visitors center, with displays of the local attraction and display rack for visitor information.
- Use the offices above the show room on the second floor balcony to house the ERC offices.
- Use the office space surrounding the show room to house the Chamber offices and other high visibility non-profit organizations, Music in the Mountains come to mind.
- The visitor center staff would act as the receptionist for the ERC, Chambers and other non-profits.
- All organizations would share the telephone and communications infrastructure, including shared network printers and copy machines.
There is enough visitor parking for small and large vehicles including tour busses and RVs. An RV Dump Station could be added on a internal road providing RV visitors another reason to stop and explore Nevada County's recreational treasures.
Exit Question: How could this idea be improved?
