The Sac Bee Capitol Alert is reporting that the California Teachers Association is ramping up pressure for Gov. Jerry Brown and legislators to strike a budget deal, airing two radio spots warning of the effects of teacher layoffs and other deep cuts to schools.
The ad campaign comes as Brown continues his effort to call a special election on maintaining higher tax rates to help close a projected $26.6 billion deficit. K-12 and higher education are expected to take a big hit in funding if the taxes fail.
If Governor Brown manages to get his tax extension initiative on the ballot the air waves will be saturated by ads from all the public service unions trying to convince us to extend the taxes, to keep their lush benefits and sustain their union power. These will be more tear jerking ads about the young, the poor, and the disabled, just like we heard when former Governor Schwarzenegger tried to reform government through the initiative process.
There is a solution! Do not allow Governor Brown to get his special election initiaitve on the ballot and force the Democrats to cut spending.
