The nations unemployment numbers have drop on percentage points. The pundits are pointing out as the economy gains steam the GOP's message that President Obama’s policies are suppressing job growth is losing it's punch. This may be true in the nation, but want about California and Nevada County? We are not seeing any job growth in Nevada County.
According to the latest issue of Nevada County Biz News (Former Business News), which has been tracking employment in the County's top 50 employers for years, employment is down again. Between January and March Nevada County's Top 50 lost 115 jobs. As you can see from this chart, County employment has a sustained downward trend.
One has to ask, if in the past California has led the nation out of a recession, why is the state lagging behind now? What is it that is holding California back? What is it that is holding Nevada County back?
The biggest losses in Nevada County jobs were Manufacturing/Speciality (-27), Dealer/Raw Materials (-59), and Services/Financial (-36).
Exit Questions: What do you think has caused the job losses in these three categories? Are they related?
